Ime Udoka has been suspended by the Boston Celtics for the entire 2022-23 NBA season

The Boston Celtics on Thursday suspended coach Aimee Odoka for the 2022-23 season for “violations of team policies,” according to A statement from the team.

“A decision regarding his future with the Celtics after this season will be made at a later time,” the Celtics said in a statement. The suspension is effective immediately.

Odoka had a consensual relationship with a Celtics employee, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the sensitive nature of the topic.

According to ESPN, assistant coach Joe Mazzola will serve as interim coach.

“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down,” Odoka said in a statement released to ESPN. “I am sorry to put the team in such a difficult situation, and I agree with the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.”
