Guardians vs. White Sox – Game Summary – September 22, 2022

Chicago – – Shane Bieber threw the ball twice in the eighth inning, and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2 on Thursday evening in three consecutive games.

Cleveland opened a seven-game lead over Chicago at AL Central with their 15th win in 18 games. The Guardians (83-67) could clinch the series’ first league title since 2018 early Sunday.

Bieber (12-8) took his fourth straight win. The 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner allowed seven strokes, five and five and didn’t run 7 2/3 runs.

“Like a lot of good shooters, he kind of worked hard finding his stuff,” Guardians team manager Terry Francona said. “He’s kind of set himself up to look like Bieber, which is pretty impressive.”

Trevor Stefan finished eighth and Emmanuel Clasey saved for ninth in AL’s save – his best 37 on 41 chances.

The Cleveland staff only released one outing in the group of three games.

“We are a confident group and have a lot of fun doing it,” Bieber said.

Sheets Gavin Sheets for the Chicago team in eighth place. Johnny Koito (7-9) allowed four runs, three wins, and eight hits in six innings for his third straight loss.

Chicago isn’t out of it yet, but it needs plenty of wins — and help — along its stretch.

“(The season) was not limited to three games but we knew what we had to do in this series and we couldn’t do it. It’s not just this series; We had to play better all season.”

The White Sox (76-74) has fallen three times in a row and four of six overall.

Cleveland advanced to stay on the sacrifices of Jose Ramirez in third place. Stephen Kwan hit a triple in the RBI in fifth and scored in another Ramirez fly for sacrifice, giving the Guardians a 4-1 lead.

The White Sox, who started September with an 8-2 score but failed to make up for a lot of back-to-back guards, earned their first RBI single by Eloy Jiménez.

The Guardians’ second round was set up by trying to break into Cuito which bounced against the gauntlet of first baseman Jose Abreu in the third. The ball rolled to the bunker fence and allowed Amed Rosario to dash from first to third. Came home later on the sacrifice Ramirez fly.
