Shaquille O’Neal may have a contender for the title of Petty White.
Former Brooklyn Nets guard Mike James turned on the hot stove this week and described Golden State Warriors star Steve Curry as “one-dimensional” on an episode of the Players Choice podcast. James Curry ranked outside the current top five in the NBA, listing Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokonmo and Luka Doncic above Curry.
βSteve, like, how he plays and how he gets things done, itβs kind of a one-dimensional sometimes, if that makes sense,β James said.
James added that although Curry is a “superstar” and may be a top ten player of all time, he considered playing Klay Thompson and Draymond Green as contributing factors to Curry’s greatness. Here’s the full clip.
I just watched this whole thing and since misery loves company, here’s a clip of a former NBA player Tweet embed He says Steve might be a top 10 player of all time but he’s not a top 5 player in today’s game. π€¦π»ββοΈ pic.twitter.com/XhzXnPjRJP

James’ comments returned to Curry, who responded by shooting during an appearance at Curry Camp in San Francisco. Carey joked that it would be a problem for either camp to deal with “even if he was one-dimensional like me,” adding a wink and a smile for good measure.

Of all the things you could call Curry, “One-Dimensional” probably isn’t one of them, especially after his fourth NBA title and first player in the Finals. The 34-year-old is indeed the greatest three-point shooter of all-time, but defenders can’t overstate it given his outstanding drive and ability to shoot from close range (as evidenced by Curry’s impressive 52.0 percent in two-point shots throughout his professional life). Curry will also have more than six assists per night, has one of the best handles in the league, and has become a very improved and underrated defender because he has added so much with age.
Regardless of his basketball ability, Curry is an eye in the sky as he sees and hears everything off-season. Two weeks ago, Carey put another opponent to shame who was flirting with him during a different podcast.
