Back in 2017, Denny Hamlin angered Chase Elliott after he knocked him out in Martinsville. The famous scene of Chase getting out of his car to confront Denny is still fresh in fan memories.
However, Hamlin recently shared an audio broadcast with fellow driver Cory Lagoy and talked about what led to the accident.
He also stated that he did not intentionally want to be kicked out of the race. NASCAR fans reacted mixed to Denny’s comments on the podcast.

During the podcast, Denny said he wanted to push to win and in order to do so, he planned to ride his own Elliott shock absorber.
Although his initial plan was to use Elliot as a draft and then push him, Chase seemed to have lifted early, causing Hamlin to bump into him a little harder than intended.
This effect caused Elliot to sprint and crash into the outer wall, ending his race at Martinsville Speedway.
Denny said, “Listen, I got my paycheck, it broke me the next week in Phoenix.” then add, “Everything squared there, he and I got to a better place.”
Fans responded to Hamlin’s comments on the podcast via a YouTube clip posted by the official NASCAR channel.

Another mentioned, “As a Chase fan, I forgive him. For some weird reason (and this has already been said) I’m starting to like Hamlin and Bush more this year. The only thing I don’t like about them is that they don’t make great calls about what is ‘fair racing’ and what isn’t.
“The Dennys always think everyone should pull out and let him win. Then he throws a decent kid when he’s not…” Another said.
